I find it much easier to use FastStone Capture. When the Choose transparent color dialog box appears with the image,click somewhere in the background to make it transparent.Select the Choose transparent color during saving.Set the Save quality: to “100”, the highest setting.The compression settings offer 10 values (0-9), but 1-9 make very little difference. For some reason, it does not work for images created using the WordArt tool in Word 2007. It works well for images that were captured off the screen using SnagIt. By trial and error approach, I came up with the procedures below for removing the background in graphic images.
